2001 - Central Fire Station

The Central Fire Station was built in 1924 in the center of the block bounded by Congress, Pearl, Federal and Market Streets. It replaced the old Central Station, which was destroyed during the Great Fire on July 4, 1866, and was Portland's first Firehouse built without accommodations for horses. 

The cost of the building and furnishings was $129,000 and was touted as "the finest modern fire station in New England."
