2000 - Hay Building

The Hay BuildingĀ (at the cross section of Congress and Free Streets) was the "uptown" location of one of Portland's oldest business establishments, H.H. Hay and Co.

In 1841, Henry H. Hay, who was then only 21, opened his first drugstore and soda fountain, dispensing medicines and flavored soda syrups and exporting them all over the world during the 19th century.

Although the old-fashioned soda fountain of Hays Drug Store is gone, this unique shaped building still provides us with great memories of a soda with two straws shared with someone special.
